Even though Twitter Cards look similar to the Open Graph previews you'd see on Facebook or LinkedIn, X reads its own dedicated twitter: namespace of meta tags rather than relying solely on Open Graph data. If your page only has Open Graph tags and no Twitter-specific ones, X will sometimes still render a usable preview by falling back to Open Graph values, but you get more reliable, more controllable results by setting Twitter Card tags explicitly rather than hoping the fallback behaves the way you expect.
Card types, and why the choice matters
The twitter:card tag determines the preview layout: summary shows a small square thumbnail beside the title and description, while summary_large_image shows a full-width image above the text — dramatically more eye-catching in a feed. For almost any content meant to be shared and clicked, summary_large_image outperforms the smaller default in practice, simply because it takes up more visual space in a crowded timeline.

Why isn't my card showing up when I paste the link?
This is almost always a caching issue — run your URL through X's Card Validator to force a fresh scrape, since the platform may be showing a stale cached preview from before your tags were added.
